A man from Srinagar who joined an INDIA bloc protest in Delhi on Thursday to oppose it has alleged that he was assaulted by supporters of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi after raising pro-Modi slogans.
Fahim Nazir arrived at the protest in the Connaught Place area carrying a placard and chanting slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while criticising the protest organisers. Tension rose when others in the crowd raised opposing slogans, and the situation escalated into physical confrontation.
Nazir claimed he was thrashed for his stance. He said he had gone to the protest to challenge what he described as a negative narrative against the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He questioned allegations of vote theft in recent elections and contrasted them with earlier polls in which the same parties had won.
He reported injuries to his head and arm and said he was suffering from a severe headache. Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report against unidentified persons on the basis of his complaint.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari criticised the alleged assault, stating that Congress workers had encircled and beaten a citizen for raising slogans in favour of the Prime Minister.
The incident occurred amid ongoing Opposition protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Opposition has been demanding Kumar’s resignation since October 6.
