New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has uncovered an organised racket involved in the black marketing of Indian Premier League (IPL) tickets in the national capital. According to a report by ANI, three people were arrested during the operation carried out by the Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell (ARSC) on Saturday.
Police officials said a total of 87 IPL tickets and passes were recovered from the accused. The seized material included 54 IPL match tickets, 33 complimentary passes marked “NOT FOR SALE”, along with Rs 25,000 in cash. Investigators alleged that the accused were illegally selling premium match tickets and hospitality passes at prices much higher than their original rates.
According to the Crime Branch, the group was reportedly operating across multiple IPL host cities and was involved in supplying tickets to bookmakers and other criminal elements. Officials stated that the racket focused on high-demand IPL fixtures where ticket demand remained extremely high among cricket fans. Complimentary passes, which are generally not meant for commercial sale, were also allegedly being circulated in the black market network.
The police launched the operation after receiving intelligence inputs regarding illegal IPL ticket sales in and around match venues. Authorities have now initiated further investigations to trace the source of the tickets and identify additional individuals linked to the network.
The incident comes amid increasing concerns over IPL ticket black marketing in several Indian cities during the ongoing tournament season. Similar cases involving illegal resale of match tickets at inflated prices have also been reported recently in cities including Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Delhi Police has advised cricket fans to purchase tickets only through authorised platforms and avoid dealing with unauthorised sellers or agents to prevent fraud and black-market activities.
