New Delhi: The national capital was placed on heightened security alert on Tuesday following a bomb threat email received by the Delhi Legislative Assembly that named several senior political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to reports, the email was addressed to Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and threatened to blow up the Delhi Assembly building as well as the nearby Vidhan Sabha Metro Station. It specifically targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
The first email arrived around 7:28 am, with a follow-up message sent directly to the Speaker minutes later. Security agencies responded swiftly, deploying police teams, bomb disposal squads, and sniffer dogs for thorough searches across the Assembly premises and surrounding areas. No suspicious objects or explosives were discovered during the extensive checks.

As a precautionary measure, security has been significantly tightened at key government installations throughout Delhi. Cyber experts have begun investigating the origin of the emails, analysing technical details in an effort to trace the sender.
This latest incident adds to a series of similar hoax bomb threats reported in the national capital in recent months, which have targeted schools, banks, the Delhi Secretariat, the Red Fort, and other prominent institutions. Authorities are treating the threat seriously while continuing their probe.
Officials have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel. The Delhi Police and other agencies are coordinating to ensure the safety of all high-profile locations and public areas.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts to maintain vigilance in the capital following repeated false alarms that have tested the preparedness of law enforcement and emergency response teams.
