Chandrababu Naidu Unveils 58-Ft Statue Of Potti Sreeramulu In Amaravati On 125th Birth Anniversary

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu unveiled a 58-foot bronze statue of Potti Sreeramulu, a freedom fighter, at Shakhamuru Park in Amravati on Monday. 

Along with CM Naidu,  Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, BJP State President Madhav, Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Minister Nara Lokesh, public representatives, and Arya Vysya Corporation Chairman Doondi Rakesh participated in the statue unveiling program held in Shakhamuru. 

A fighter who fasted for 58 days demanding to carve out a separate state from Madras for Telugu-speaking people until his death on December 15, 1952. As a result, Andhra Pradesh state was formed out of Madras based on the linguistic demand for the Telugu speaking people. Now the state has been bifurcated into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh decades later.  

On the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Potti Sreeramulu, honoured as ‘Amarajeevi’ which means immortal being, the statue was unveiled by CM Naidu. He paid flower tributes to the fighter.   

The project is divided into two phases where in the first phase Rs 150 crore on 6.8 acre plot has been completed while the Potti Srimlulu Memorial Trust completed the construction of the 58-ft statue in six months. In the making of the statue, a total of 26 tons of bronze and 42 tons of iron were utilised. 

In the second phase, an auditorium, a museum, photo gallery and a skill development centre will be constructed at the site as per the official press release. This memorial complex is intended to preserve his legacy and highlight his role in the movement of forming Andhra state reflecting his sacrifice for the people.
