Budaun Rape Case Update: Accused Captured In A “Operation Langda” Manner

Budaun: The sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl in Budaun district, Uttar Pradesh, has shed light on the horrific state of the nation and the state. The child was found in village fields after an intense seven-hour search and was discovered injured. Following a quick rescue and medical examination, it was confirmed that the child was a victim of sexual abuse by a man who had taken her under suspicious circumstances on the night of June 25. After an extensive investigation, police have detained a 60-year-old man named Abrar, who belongs to the same village and is reportedly a relative of the victim.

The dramatic capture of the accused saw police employ the controversial technique of shooting the suspect in the leg to immobilize him, a practice colloquially known as “Operation Langda.” As police approached the accused, he opened fire, leaving a constable injured. The police returned fire in a chaotic encounter. The suspect was hiding in the bushes of an orchard on Bhasrala Road. As SSP Ankita Sharma reported, after being informed of his whereabouts by an informant, the area was surrounded. The accused opened fire on the police, who reacted by shooting him in both legs.

It was revealed that the victim, who was present at an Islamic procession for Muharram on the night of June 25 in the village within the Alapur area, was spotted by the man in the crowded procession. He lured her with the promise of a “mirch-pakoda” (chili fritter) treat. After feeding her the snack, he allegedly took her into the fields and committed the assault. The accused fled the scene immediately after the crime, leaving the girl at the location.

Currently, Abrar is in the hospital being treated for his injuries. While questioning, he confessed to the crime. During the capture, the police recovered a rifle with four empty cartridges and one live cartridge from the accused. Further investigation is underway.
