Bank Holidays In April 2026: Check Full List

As the financial year concludes, banks throughout India are scheduled to observe several closures in April 2026, driven by public holidays, regional festivals, and standard weekend breaks, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar. Customers are encouraged to schedule their essential banking transactions well in advance to prevent any disruptions.

The month kicks off with a nationwide bank holiday on April 1 (Wednesday) for the annual closing of accounts. This shutdown will affect branches in major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, among others.

Key nationwide observances include Good Friday on April 3 (Friday), which will see widespread closures across much of the country. On April 14 (Tuesday), banks will remain shut for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, coinciding with regional celebrations such as Baisakhi, Tamil New Year, Bohag Bihu, and Vishu in various parts of India.

The following day, April 15 (Wednesday), marks additional holidays for Bengali New Year, Vishu, and Himachal Day, leading to further regional impacts on banking services.

Several state-specific holidays will also come into play. April 2 (Thursday) is Maundy Thursday, observed in Kerala. April 16 (Thursday) brings Bohag Bihu in Assam. On April 20 (Monday), Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya will close banks in Karnataka and West Bengal. April 21 (Tuesday) is designated for Garia Puja in Tripura. Individuals should confirm details with their local bank branches, as closures can vary by location.

In addition to these public holidays, banks will follow their regular weekly schedule with closures on all Sundays—April 5, 12, 19, and 26—as well as the second and fourth Saturdays: April 11 and April 25.

These overlapping dates are expected to create extended long weekends, particularly around Good Friday and the mid-April cluster of festivals. While digital banking platforms, ATMs, and online services will continue to function normally, physical branches will not be operational on holiday dates.

The RBI holiday list serves as the primary reference for these observances. With multiple non-working days spread throughout April 2026, planning ahead remains key for seamless banking experiences.
