Andhra Pradesh Police SI Scales Mount Elbrus With 100 Metre Tricolour

Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector V. Venkateswara Rao marked India’s 80th Independence Day in a striking way by scaling Mount Elbrus in Russia and unfurling a nearly 100 metre long Indian Tricolour at its summit.

Rao, who is posted at Eluru Rural Police Station, reached the summit at around 8 am IST on Saturday, August 15. Mount Elbrus, standing at 5,642 metres, is recognised as the highest peak in Europe.

After reaching the summit, Rao unfurled the giant Tricolour and sang the National Anthem to mark Independence Day. The moment turned his mountaineering achievement into a patriotic tribute on a day when India was celebrating its 80th year of independence.

The police officer also dedicated his achievement to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Rao is an avid mountaineer and has already climbed several peaks. He has also undergone rigorous physical and mental training for high altitude expeditions, according to the information available about his climb.

For Rao, however, Mount Elbrus is not the final destination. Following his successful summit, he is now preparing for his next major challenge Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world above sea level.

The Elbrus climb brings together two important parts of Rao’s life his career in the police force and his passion for mountaineering. His decision to carry the Tricolour to the summit and dedicate the achievement to fallen police personnel added a personal significance to the Independence Day expedition.

Mount Elbrus is located in Russia and rises to 5,642 metres. Reaching its summit is a demanding high altitude mountaineering achievement, and Rao’s ascent came with an additional challenge carrying and unfurling a Tricolour measuring nearly 100 metres in length at the peak.

With the Tricolour flying at 5,642 metres on Independence Day, V. Venkateswara Rao has given his own distinctive meaning to the national celebration combining adventure, duty and a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the police force.
