On Tuesday, July 27, 2026, a traffic accident in the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir injured about 39 pilgrims returning from the Amarnath Yatra. The event happened at approximately 5:30 a.m. According to locals, the bus carrying pilgrims went off the road and fell into a low-lying area close to the S-Mode area of Ganiwan in the Gund area of Ganderbal.
According to preliminary accounts, the driver of the bus with registration number AR11 D5655 lost control close to Ganiwan and then rolled into a ditch. The trapped pilgrims, including women and children, were rescued by locals working alongside the security authorities.
“39 pilgrims are being treated at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) [in Srinagar] following Darshan of Baba Barfani’s injuries. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of J&K stated, “I have instructed the health officials to guarantee all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care.”
According to officials, the accident caused brain injuries to a number of people. Additionally, Mr. Sinha had conversations with Ganderbal, the Deputy Commissioner, and health officials. According to officials, the police will determine what caused the collision.
