Woman Killed In Vicious Stray Dog Attack In Surat, Toddler Also Mauled To Death In Separate Incident

Surat: In a tragic incident highlighting the growing threat of stray dog attacks, a 41-year-old woman was mauled to death by a pack of around 15 dogs in Jodvan village of Umarpada taluka, Surat district. The victim, identified as Ema Vasava, was reportedly attacked early Monday morning when she went to a nearby field. When she didn’t return home, her family began searching and later discovered her lifeless body in a farm, severely bitten and mauled. A postmortem confirmed the cause of death to be multiple dog bites.
“Villagers reported seeing several dogs near the body. So far, there is no indication of any cause other than a dog attack,” said officials from the Umarpada police, who responded to the scene immediately. The horrifying incident has triggered widespread fear in the area, especially among those who regularly work or travel through nearby fields. Locals say that the dogs appeared to have come from a nearby forested area, sparking concerns about increasing human-wildlife conflict.
In a separate tragic event, a 2-year-old boy was killed in a dog attack in Vagadhiya village of Muli taluka, Surendranagar, on Sunday afternoon. The child, Rajesh Katara, was asleep in a cot while his parents, migrant farm laborers from Jhabua ,were at work when a dog fatally attacked him.
These back-to-back incidents have raised alarm across the state, with residents demanding urgent measures to address the threat posed by aggressive stray dogs.
