Violent clash in Dehgam’s Bahiyal village: Police file case against mob of 1,500, reconstruction done for over 60 accused

FIR registered under attempt to murder and other charges as investigation expands

Gandhinagar: Police have carried out a reconstruction in connection with the recent violence in Bahiyal village of Dehgam, Gandhinagar district. According to officials, FIRs have been registered against 83 named individuals along with a mob of nearly 1,500 people. More than 60 accused were taken to the crime site for reconstruction on Thursday evening as part of the investigation process.

Violence during Navratri celebrations
The incident occurred during Navratri festivities when a group from the minority community allegedly pelted stones, set vehicles ablaze, and vandalized shops in the locality. Police have booked several accused under charges including attempt to murder and damage to public property. Over 60 suspects have already been arrested, while others have fled the village. Search operations are underway to trace them.

Trigger: A social media post
Officials said the clashes were linked to a social media post. A member of a rival group had shared an “I Love Mahadev” poster in response to the ongoing “I Love Muhammad” controversy. This triggered violent confrontations that left vehicles and shops badly damaged, with several people sustaining injuries.

Fear grips the village
Following the large-scale violence, heavy police deployment continues in Bahiyal. Security has been tightened to ensure Navratri celebrations go ahead without incident. Locals said there was still an atmosphere of fear in the village, although they expressed some relief with the police presence. Authorities remain on high alert given the tense situation.
