Vadnagar To Host State-Level Celebrations For 11th International Yoga Day On June 21

Vadnagar: The 11th International Yoga Day will be observed on June 21, with Gujarat’s state-level celebrations scheduled to take place in Vadnagar, the hometown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The main event will be held at Sharmistha Lake, where Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will lead a mass yoga session.

This year’s theme, “One Earth, One Health,” aligns with the state government’s vision of promoting a “Healthy Gujarat” and an “Obesity-Free Gujarat.” Health Minister Rishikesh Patel, Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi, and other senior officials are expected to attend the event.

Prime Minister Modi, who proposed the idea of International Yoga Day at the United Nations in 2014, will participate in a separate yoga programme in Visakhapatnam. He is also expected to address the nation on the importance of yoga and its role in fostering a healthy lifestyle.

To mark the occasion, the Gujarat government has planned large-scale yoga events at multiple iconic locations across the state, including schools, colleges, and public institutions. Live telecasts of the Prime Minister’s address will be broadcast at major venues, including the Vadnagar event site.

Officials aim to involve approximately 1.5 crore people in the state-wide celebrations, with special sessions arranged at district, taluka, and village levels. Over 5.7 lakh students and public institution staff are expected to participate.

Building on last year’s milestone, where over 1.31 crore people in Gujarat took part in Yoga Day, the state now aims to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of participants performing Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) at Sharmistha Lake.

The state-level event in Vadnagar is expected to draw significant public interest and further reinforce Gujarat’s active role in promoting yoga as a tool for preventive healthcare and holistic wellness.
