
Ahmedabad: Weather conditions across Gujarat took a sharp turn starting last evening, as unseasonal rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning lashed various parts of the state. The rain continued into the next day, with precipitation reported in 103 district. The highest rainfall was recorded in Mahuva, Bhavnagar, where around 7 inches of rain fell.
Mahuva Receives 7 Inches of Rain
According to officials, a western disturbance caused the shift in weather patterns. While several districts witnessed rain yesterday, the trend persisted today. As of 8:30 PM, unseasonal showers were recorded in 103 talukas, with Mahuva receiving the most 6 inches in just four hours and a total of 7 inches overall.
Rainfall in Amreli District
In Amreli district, Lathi received 2.4 inches of rain, Savarkundla 2.13 inches, and Lilia 1.9 inches. Other areas such as Amreli town recorded 1.8 inches, Babra 1.6 inches, and Gondal 1.3 inches. Tharad in Banaskantha also saw 1.1 inches of rain. Data showed that during the day, 8 talukas received over 1 inch of rainfall, 3 talukas saw over 2 inches, and 1 taluka recorded over 3 inches.
Rainfall in Ahmedabad
Cloudy skies were present throughout the morning in Ahmedabad, followed by heavy showers in the evening. Several parts of the city experienced intense downpours, resulting in waterlogging and overflowing drains.
18 Deaths Reported
Due to the impact of the western disturbance in the middle of summer, the state witnessed storm-like conditions starting late last night. The natural calamity caused widespread damage, claiming 18 lives in separate incidents and leading to the deaths of around 26 animals.
Rain Forecast to Continue
While the rainfall has brought some relief from the heat, it has raised concerns among farmers regarding crop damage. Strong winds and hail are expected to harm mango, cotton, and other crops. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rain is also forecast for May 7 in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Rajkot, Morbi, and Kutch districts.
