Gandhinagar: A tragic accident occurred near Kamlam, close to Koba Circle in Gandhinagar, where an under-construction building, Shriji Erish collapsed late Wednesday morning. The collapse left three construction workers trapped under the debris. Sadly, one of them, 30-year-old Ajay Parmar from Dungarpur, Rajasthan, lost his life in the incident.
The Gandhinagar Police Control Room alerted the fire department at around 11:40 a.m., prompting an immediate response. Fire brigade teams arrived at the site within minutes and launched a rescue operation. Two other workers, 45-year-old Natwarbhai Damor and 19-year-old Chirag Damor, were pulled from the rubble and rushed to Akshar Hospital in Nana Chiloda for treatment.
The building, developed by builder Prakash Madhubhai Patel, was still under construction when the mishap occurred. The fire department concluded the rescue operation at approximately 1:10 p.m.
Meanwhile, concerns about building safety continue to grow across Gujarat. Just a day earlier, a portion of a dilapidated apartment in Ahmedabad’s Dudheshwar area collapsed during heavy rains. In that incident, a damaged stairwell and parts of the roof gave way, trapping residents of the upper floor inside their homes. Fire officials were called to the scene and, after an hour-long operation, successfully rescued 16 people, including a 9-month-old baby, without any injuries.
Both incidents have reignited debates about construction safety and building integrity in the wake of Gujarat’s monsoon season.
