Tragic Collision Claims Two Lives on Ahmedabad BRTS Corridor

Ahmedabad – A devastating accident on Ahmedabad’s BRTS corridor near Nehrunagar has left two young men dead, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety in the city. The incident, occurred late at night near the Jhansi Ki Rani statue, where a speeding car collided with a two-wheeler, resulting in catastrophic consequences.
According to details, the collision was so severe that the two-wheeler, a Honda Activa, was hurled into the BRTS track after striking a railing. The impact obliterated the vehicle, leaving it mangled. The two riders, identified by the Ahmedabad Traffic Police as Akram Altafbhai Qureshi, 22, and Ashfaq Jafarbhai Ajmeri, 35, both residents of Jamalpur, suffered fatal injuries. Qureshi was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ajmeri, critically injured, was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at 5:20 a.m. on August 11.
The car, bearing a GJ27 registration number, was allegedly driven recklessly at high speed. The force of the crash threw both victims onto the road, underscoring the intensity of the impact. Traffic police responded swiftly, detaining the car’s driver and launching an investigation. Authorities have secured CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the precise cause of the accident. An FIR is expected to be filed against the driver for rash and negligent driving causing death.
The victims’ bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations, and their families, devastated by the loss, are grappling with profound grief. The tragedy has cast a somber mood over the community, with many questioning the safety of the BRTS corridor. The police are continuing their probe, focusing on the driver’s actions and potential contributing factors. This incident adds to the growing number of fatal accidents in Ahmedabad, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
