Two Children Killed, One Injured As Mud Wall Collapses In Khedbrahma Amid Heavy Rains
Khedbrahma: A tragic incident unfolded in Ratanpur-Sukaamba village near Kheroj in Khedbrahma taluka, where two young siblings lost their lives and another child was critically injured after a mud wall collapsed during intense monsoon rainfall.
According to local sources, the children were playing outside when a weakened earthen wall from a nearby house suddenly crumbled due to heavy moisture. The collapse buried the children under the debris. A 7-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother died on the spot. The third child was seriously hurt and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and sent the bodies for post-mortem. An official case of accidental death has been filed at the Kheroj police station, and an investigation is underway. The children, Ravindra Makwana (9), Dilip (4) and Asha (7), were playing ner the wall when it suddenly gave in. Nearby residents rushed to the scene after hearing loud noises and commotion and rescued them from the debris. Ravindra was taken to a hospital in Khedbrahma, while Dilip and Asha were being transported towards Vadali for advanced treatment. However, both died on the way.
The tragedy has cast a pall of sorrow over the entire village. Shocked and grieving residents have called for urgent government intervention, demanding financial compensation for the bereaved family and support for the injured child’s recovery. Villagers also voiced concerns about the structural safety of mud homes, especially during monsoon season, urging authorities to carry out regular inspections and reinforce vulnerable structures.
This incident adds to a growing list of rain-related accidents being reported across Gujarat as the state faces a fierce start to the monsoon. For the residents of Ratanpur-Sukaamba, what should have been just another rainy day turned into a devastating reminder of the dangers lurking in neglected infrastructure.
