Rajkot: Yet another hit-and-run incident late Sunday night claimed the lives of two women and left two men seriously injured in Rajkot. The accident took place near Korat Chowk on Gondal Road when a speeding truck collided with two motorcycles carrying members of the same family. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The victims were returning to Gondal after attending a family function in Rajkot. According to reports, Jyotiben Manojbhai Bavaniya (mother-in-law) and Jahnaviben Bavaniya (daughter-in-law) died on the spot due to severe injuries. The father and son who were accompanying them sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Raghuvirbhai Niranjani, a family relative, shared that the group was heading back to Gondal after attending a ceremony at his brother-in-law’s home. “Due to traffic at Korat Chowk, the bikes had slowed down and moved slightly to the side of the road when the truck hit them from behind,” he said.
He also expressed frustration with the police, claiming that the Shapar police have refused to register the case as a hit-and-run despite repeated appeals. “If the police do not file a hit-and-run complaint, we will refuse to accept the bodies. We will take this matter to the District Police Chief, and if necessary, we will stage a protest outside his office,” Niranjani added.

Upon learning about the incident, police reached the scene and initiated standard procedures, including shifting the bodies for postmortem and transporting the injured to a nearby hospital. While the truck driver initially escaped, authorities managed to apprehend him within a few hours. Investigations are now underway to determine the cause of the accident.
