Tragic Death Of 5 Year Old Girl At Unauthorized Fair In Manasa Sparks Silent Rally For Justice

Gandhinagar: A heart-wrenching incident occurred in Manasa on last Sunday when a five-year-old girl lost her life due to gross negligence at an unauthorized fair. The fair, known as Anand Mela, was operating without official approval, and strong winds caused a Mickey Mouse bouncy ballon ride to overturn, throwing several children to the ground.
Among the injured were Kanvi, the five-year-old daughter of Sanket Patel from Manasa, and four-year-old Ravya, daughter of Akshay Patel from Dholakuva. Both were rushed to a hospital in Ahmedabad in critical condition. Tragically, Kanvi succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Following the tragedy, the fair operator, Shyamlal Chhaganlal Rawal, was charged by local authorities. A criminal case under charges of culpable homicide has been registered, and Rawal has been sent to central jail. Initially, authorities were accused of ignoring the matter, but growing public outrage pushed officials to take action.

Investigations revealed that the organizer had only applied for permission to operate sound systems and toy stalls but went ahead and installed large amusement rides without waiting for approval. The fair had been running since May 22 on the Manasa-Kalol Road without any administrative clearance.
In response to the incident, grieving family members and outraged townspeople organized a silent rally demanding justice. The march began in Takhatpur and proceeded to the Mamlatdar’s office in Manasa. Participants wore black bands and carried banners calling for strict punishment not just for the operator, but also for the officials who gave implicit approval by turning a blind eye to the illegal setup.
Many residents have questioned how such a large fair was allowed to operate without oversight and have demanded a thorough investigation into who enabled it behind the scenes. The silent protest saw participation from women, children, and locals from various villages, all united in their demand for justice for little Kanvi and for accountability from those responsible.
