Gujarat Braces for Heavy Rainfall as Monsoon Intensifies

Ahmedabad– The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Gujarat over the next few days. The monsoon, currently active in the region, is expected to bring significant showers, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain vigilant.

The IMD’s Ahmedabad centre reported that a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is strengthening the monsoon currents, leading to increased rainfall in districts such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Kutch. Coastal areas, including Valsad and Navsari, are likely to experience intense downpours, with some regions potentially receiving up to 150 mm of rain in a 24-hour period. The forecast also indicates a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas.

Local authorities have advised residents in low-lying areas to take precautions, as heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging and disruptions in transportation. The IMD has also cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions expected along the Gujarat coast until the end of the week.

The state government is closely monitoring the situation, with disaster response teams on standby to address any emergencies. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather alerts and follow safety guidelines issued by local officials.
