Gujarat Weather: Floods Hit State, Ahmedabad Braces for Storms

Gujarat is reeling from severe flooding and heavy rainfall that have claimed lives in recent days, prompting heightened weather alerts across multiple districts. In Ahmedabad, residents experienced a brief respite with light showers and cooler temperatures on Wednesday, while southern parts of the state brace for more intense downpours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Surat, Valsad, and Bharuch, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. Ahmedabad, meanwhile, remains under a yellow alert, with expectations of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

According to the IMD, the active monsoon phase will bring continued thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy showers across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, through Thursday and beyond. The weather forecast for the week ahead includes: June 19, with thunderstorms, rain, and lightning, temperatures ranging from 26°C to 35°C, and humidity at 90–92%; June 20, featuring thunderstorms and lightning, with temperatures between 26°C and 34°C and humidity at 75–85%; June 21, with ongoing thunderstorm activity, temperatures from 25°C to 34°C, and humidity at 75–85%; June 22–23, expecting thunderstorms and heavy rain in northern Gujarat on June 23, with temperatures between 25°C and 35°C and humidity at 90–95%; and June 24–25, with likely rain or thundershowers, no major warnings, temperatures from 24°C to 34°C, and humidity at 90–95%. Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas, particularly those under orange alerts, to exercise caution.
