Teen Dies After Jumping from Ahmedabad School Building

In a heartbreaking incident at Som Lalit School in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, a 16-year-old Class 10 student passed away during medical treatment following a suicide attempt on July 24, 2025. The student reportedly jumped from the fourth floor of the school during a recess break at approximately 12:30 PM, sustaining severe injuries to her head, hands, and legs. Despite efforts by classmates to intervene, she broke free and leapt from the building.

The girl was rushed to Nidhi Hospital, where she was admitted to the ICU in critical condition. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Navrangpura police, led by Inspector A A Desai, have launched an investigation, registering the case as a medico-legal matter. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing classmates, teachers, and school staff to determine the circumstances leading to the incident. The student’s father, speaking to Bhaskar English, expressed grief and noted that her condition was critical, with further details pending her recovery, which tragically did not occur.

Pragnesh Shastri, the school’s managing trustee, confirmed the incident occurred during recess when students were outside classrooms. The investigation continues to explore the reasons behind the student’s actions, with police awaiting further evidence to clarify the motive. The tragedy has sparked renewed discussions about student mental health and the need for enhanced emotional support in schools.
