A serious accident has taken place between a tanker carrying edible oil and a travels bus on the Dhoraji-Jetpur highway of the Rajkot district. Due to the accident, the tanker got overturned. Though no casualties were reported, the accident left over 10 people injured. Meanwhile, as oil spilled out onto the road due to the accident, local people were seen scrambling to collect it, forming a chaotic state.
Upon learning about the incident, Dhoraji taluka police reached the spot and registered a case. Further investigations are going on. Apparently, a private travels bus carrying around 40 passengers was on the way from Rajkot to Porbandar. The bus collided with a tanker carrying edible oil coming from the other side, near Bhootvad Chowkdi.
As per eyewitnesses, the tanker was moving at a very high speed. On the other hand, a passenger who was in the bus said that the bus driver tried to avoid the accident by applying brakes; however, since the tanker appeared suddenly, the vehicles collided with each other.
More than 10 people got injured in the accident. Upon getting information about the accident, ambulance of the Dhoraji Civil Hospital along with teams of Highway Ambulance reached the spot. A paramedical staff member informed that since over 10 people had been injured, more ambulances were called for. All injured have been shifted to the Dhoraji Civil Hospital. Out of them, 5 were seriously injured, and were shifted to Junagadh for treatment.
The tanker carrying edible oil got overturned due to the accident. As a result, oil spilled out onto the road. Surprising visuals surfaced as local people scrambled to collect the spilled oil; this created a traffic jam on the highway. Police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
Furthermore, the drivers of the tanker and the bus will be interrogated. Statements of the injured passengers will also be recorded. The police are conducting investigations to find out the exact cause of the accident.
The state is witnessing increasing number of highway accidents. This raises questions about safety of travelers. It also sparks concerns about driving big and heavy vehicles on highways.
