Surat To Open Six New Suman High Schools; A1 Grade Board Students To Receive ₹7,000 Scholarship

Surat: In a major boost to public education, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced the launch of six new Suman High Schools for the academic year 2025–26. These schools aim to meet the growing demand for quality education among lower and middle-income families and will offer education in Gujarati, English, Hindi, and Marathi mediums.

The addition follows a year of remarkable academic success for the Suman School network. In the latest board exams, a total of 306 students earned A-1 grades, a record-breaking performance that underscores the growing popularity of these city-run institutions. The schools achieved a 95.54% pass rate in Class 10 and 98.64% in Class 12, with the SMC awarding ₹7,000 scholarships to each top-performing student.

According to Surat Mayor Daxesh Mavani, the rising shift from private to government education is clear: “Last year alone, over 18,000 students switched from private to municipal schools. We’re now expanding our footprint to ensure access to high-quality education closer to home.”

Equipped with advanced facilities such as AI labs and high-tech classrooms, the six new Suman Schools will reinforce Surat’s standing as a model for urban public education in Gujarat.
