Surat Fire: A major fire broke out on Wednesday at Raj Textile Market in the Parvat Patiya area of Surat city, triggering panic in the busy commercial hub. Flames were reported on the third, fifth and ninth floors of the multi-storey market, forcing an extensive firefighting operation. To bring the blaze under control, around 22 fire tenders rushed to the spot and continuously doused the building with water. After several hours of intensive efforts, firefighters managed to control the flames and began cooling operations, but the fire erupted again on all three floors, compelling the fire brigade teams to resume firefighting.
According to initial information, the fire started on December 10 in three floors of Raj Textile Market in Parvat Patiya. As soon as the incident was reported, fire brigade units and police personnel reached the site. More than 22 fire engines were deployed at the spot, and teams worked for over two hours in their attempt to bring the situation under control.
Fire officer Ishwar Patel said that, at first glance, the blaze appears to have been caused by a wiring-related problem, though the exact reason will be confirmed only after the fire is fully extinguished and a detailed inquiry is completed. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
The police department is closely monitoring the entire operation. To prevent chaos and traffic congestion in the surrounding area, police have installed barricades and put proper crowd and traffic management measures in place. Residents and traders in nearby areas are being requested to cooperate with the police and fire services while the operation continues.
