Surat: A shocking armed robbery in Surat’s Sachin area has left a jewellery shop owner dead and the community in shock. Four armed robbers stormed Shreenathji Jewellers on Monday night around 8:30 to 8:45 PM, intending to loot the store. When Ashish Rajpara, who was present at the shop, tried to resist the robbery, one of the criminals opened fire, hitting him twice in the chest. He was rushed to Sachin Hospital and later shifted to Apple Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Another person at the scene also sustained injuries.
As the robbers attempted to flee the scene with bags of stolen jewellery, local residents sprang into action. One of the four robbers was caught by the crowd and severely beaten before being handed over to police. He is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital for head injuries. CCTV footage shows all four suspects fleeing the scene, jumping walls, and being chased by residents.
Police have confirmed that two shots were fired during the robbery. One bag of jewellery was recovered at the store, while the robbers escaped with another. Authorities are investigating whether Ashish Rajpara was the legal owner of the shop or working under someone else.
Surat police, along with the Crime Branch, have launched a manhunt for the three remaining suspects, using CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. ACP Nirav Gohil stated that a total of three rounds were fired, and efforts are underway to track down and arrest the fugitives. This violent robbery in one of Surat’s busiest commercial areas has raised serious concerns about public safety, prompting swift action from local law enforcement.
