On Thursday (June 5), tense situations were created as a Congress leader attempted suicide in Surat. The Congress leader tried to commit suicide by jumping off from the Variav Bridge. Fortunately, due to the vigilance of a responsible citizen, the leader was saved from committing suicide.
The Congress leader was seen walking on the bridge in a suspicious manner. A responsible citizen noticed this and called the fire brigade. He even recorded a video of the leader’s suspicious movements. As per the citizen’s suspicion, the leader eventually jumped off from the bridge. Luckily, the fire brigade arrived in time and initiated rescue operations. Despite the darkness of the night, the fire brigade team found and rescued the Congress leader from the Tapi River.
After which, he was shifted to the hospital by the 108 ambulance services. The Singanpor police was also informed about the incident. After getting recovered, the Congress leader gave his statement. Apparently, he had been suffering from cancer for the last 4 years. He was not able to sleep properly due to the illness; he was frustrated due to it. As a result, he decided to end his life.
The Congress leader was counseled by the Singanpor police, after which, he was handed over to his family. This incident has raised questions about the mental health well-being of patients suffering from long-term illness. The responsible citizen’s vigilance and efforts are worth noting, due to which the leader was saved.
