Gujarat University Opens Doors to Dual Enrollment for Students

Ahmedabad, Gujarat – In a significant development for higher education, Gujarat University has announced that students can now pursue two academic programs simultaneously, aligning with the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) latest guidelines. This move, allows students to enroll in two colleges at once, provided the class schedules do not conflict, offering greater flexibility in their academic pursuits.
The UGC’s new policy permits students to undertake two full-time physical programs, a combination of one physical and one online or distance learning program, or two online/distance learning programs concurrently. Gujarat University has embraced this framework, enabling students to combine major and minor courses across different institutions. For instance, a student could pursue a Bachelor of Science as their major at one college while enrolling in a minor course in humanities at another, as long as the schedules are compatible.
A spokesperson from Gujarat University emphasized that all programs must be offered by UGC-recognized institutions to ensure quality education. This initiative aims to break down traditional academic barriers, fostering interdisciplinary learning and equipping students with diverse skill sets for the evolving job market. The university has clarified that students must carefully plan their schedules to avoid overlaps and meet the academic requirements of both programs.

This policy, rooted in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has been in place for over two years, but some institutions have been slow to implement it. Gujarat University’s proactive adoption of the dual enrollment system is expected to set a precedent for other institutions in the state, encouraging students to maximize their educational opportunities.
