Bagdana Case: The investigation into the brutal attack on Navneet Baldhiya, former sarpanch of Bagdana in Bhavnagar district and a prominent leader of the Koli community, has gathered significant momentum. In a major development, Jayraj Ahir, son of renowned folk litterateur Mayabhai Ahir, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning on Tuesday evening at 5:15 PM.
The SIT, constituted to probe the December 29, 2025 attack, had issued summons to Jayraj Ahir, requiring him to present himself at the Bhavnagar Range IG office by 5:00 PM on January 21. Sources indicate that investigators are conducting an intensive interrogation to establish the facts surrounding the violent incident.

The assault case has sparked widespread anger across the Koli community in Bhavnagar and throughout Gujarat. Baldhiya, who sustained serious injuries when approximately eight individuals attacked him with pipes and sticks late at night on December 29, has alleged a conspiracy behind the attack.
According to Baldhiya’s account, the roots of the conflict trace back to a folk diary event organised by Mayabhai Ahir in Mumbai. During the programme, Mayabhai reportedly referred to Yogesh Sagar as the ‘Managing Trustee’ of Bagdana Ashram. Baldhiya contacted him to clarify that no such position exists at the ashram. Mayabhai subsequently acknowledged the error and issued an apology.
However, Baldhiya has claimed that Jayraj Ahir was displeased with his father’s apology, which allegedly led to the orchestration of the violent attack on him.
The investigation has seen several key developments. On Monday, January 19, SIT officials questioned Baldhiya for three consecutive hours. The complainant has stated that he submitted approximately 15 pieces of evidence against Jayraj Ahir during this interrogation session.
The probe team has also summoned the initial investigating officers from Bagdana Police Station, including the then woman Police Inspector D.V. Danger and another PI, for questioning regarding the case.
Given the severity of the incident and the community unrest it triggered including threats of self-immolation and demonstrations demanding justice the state government ordered the formation of an SIT led by an IPS officer to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.
The SIT is currently working to uncover the complete truth behind the assault and establish accountability in the matter.
