Selfie Attempt Turns Fatal: 18-Year-Old Dies After Falling into Waterfall in Sabarkantha

Sabarkantha: In yet another tragic reminder of the dangers of risky selfies, an 18-year-old youth lost his life after slipping into a waterfall while trying to take pictures. The incident occurred near Kanadar village in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district.

The victim, identified as Alpesh Menat, had gone on an outing with friends to visit the Dhartimata temple, a popular pilgrimage spot nestled in a hilly region that has turned lush green following recent heavy rains. After offering prayers, Alpesh and his friends ventured towards a scenic waterfall located behind the temple.

Originally from Od village near Palla in Bhiloda taluka of Aravalli district, Alpesh attempted to take selfies while climbing on the rocks near the waterfall. However, the rain-soaked stones proved treacherously slippery. He lost his footing, fell into the water, and died instantly. Though bystanders quickly pulled him from the water, it was too late, he was already deceased.

In a separate incident on Sunday afternoon, 23-year-old Nilesh Devjibhai Parmar from Katosan (Rajpura) village in Detroj taluka of Mehsana district reportedly drowned in a river. Following the report, teams from the Idar and Himatnagar fire departments, along with local villagers, launched an intensive search operation that lasted nearly seven hours. However, at the time of reporting, his body had not been recovered.

These back-to-back incidents serve as somber reminders of the unforeseen risks associated with natural sites during the monsoon and the need for extreme caution while visiting such areas.
