Saurashtra University Controversy: Students Marked Absent Despite Attending Final Exams

Rajkot: Saurashtra University has once again come under fire, this time for an error that may jeopardize students’ academic futures. Multiple students have alleged that they were wrongly marked as absent in their final examinations, despite having attended and even having proof of their presence.

One such student, Abhishek Chavda, pursuing a B.Com degree, stated that he appeared for his exam in April 2025 but was later shown as absent in the official results. “I have proof I was present. I raised the issue with the university 15 days ago, but I haven’t received any response. I’ve also submitted a formal complaint to the police,” he said.

According to reports, several other students have faced the same issue. Among them are students from B.A., M.A., M.Sc. Nursing, and B.Ed. programs, most of whom sat their exams between November 2024 and April 2025. Despite being present and even having supervisor signatures on their hall tickets, they were declared absent and subsequently failed.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has accused the university’s exam department of repeated negligence, stating that these errors are not isolated incidents but part of a wider pattern of administrative mismanagement. The allegations include careless handling of attendance records and slow or no action on reassessments.

Student leaders have submitted documented evidence for at least six students to the University’s Examination Controller and Vice-Chancellor, demanding immediate correction of the affected results. They argue that the future of these students, who were ready to pursue higher education, is now at risk due to errors they had no control over.

While the in-charge examination controller has promised an investigation and said that necessary corrections will be made, students remain anxious. “If my result isn’t corrected, I won’t be able to apply for my master’s,” Abhishek said. “It’s my future at stake.”

The controversy is deepening as reports suggest that over 20 students may have been impacted by similar errors. Despite reassessment requests, no concrete resolution has been provided, fueling further frustration and concern among students and parents alike.
