Ahmedabad: Three inmates assaulted a terrorism case accused inside the newly constructed Sabarmati Central Jail on Monday, leaving him injured. Following the incident at the high-security facility, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Ranip Police have launched an investigation.

According to senior police officials, Ahmed Mohiyuddin Sayed, who is imprisoned in connection with a terrorism-related case, was suddenly attacked by three prisoners within the jail premises. The motive behind the assault remains unclear.

Upon learning of the incident, a team including Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad personnel immediately reached the jail facility.

Meanwhile, jail authorities swiftly transferred the injured Sayed to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for treatment. Doctors reported that Sayed sustained injuries to his eye, face, and other parts of his body, and he is currently under medical observation.

Serious questions over jail security

The attack has once again raised serious concerns about the internal security arrangements at Sabarmati Jail. The facility has previously faced thorough investigations regarding prohibited items, illegal mobile phones, and security breaches.

Ranip Police also arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident and initiated the complaint registration process. Police are identifying the attackers while also investigating whether the assault stems from personal enmity or is part of a larger conspiracy within the jail. A senior jail official stated that all possible angles are being examined in this case. Additional security measures will be implemented in the jail to prevent such undesirable incidents in the future.
