Rickshaw Plunges Into Sudden Road Cave-In On Ahmedabad’s Makarba Main Road, Driver Injured

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad may still be weeks away from the monsoon, but the city is already grappling with dangerous potholes and crumbling roads. A serious incident occurred near Atulyam Apartments on Makarba Main Road, where a large portion of the road suddenly caved in, trapping a passing rickshaw.
According to eyewitnesses, the rickshaw driver was traveling his usual route when he encountered what seemed like a small pothole. Without noticing anything unusual, he drove over it, only for the ground beneath the rickshaw to give way. The front half of the vehicle plunged into a deep sinkhole that formed instantly, causing significant damage to the rickshaw and injuring the driver.
The windshield shattered, and the impact left the driver bleeding from injuries caused by the broken glass. He was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Local residents rushed to the scene to help. Many tried to stop the bleeding using cotton until emergency responders arrived. Police quickly reached the spot and worked to clear the road to prevent a traffic jam.
The injured driver, Ranjitbhai, said, “It looked like a small pothole. I didn’t pay much attention. As I passed over it, the road collapsed, and the rickshaw went in. My head hit the glass, and I was bleeding from my face.”

Makarba Main Road is a six-lane route that connects Old and New Ahmedabad and is currently undergoing flyover construction. Incidents like this raise serious questions about road quality and public safety, especially with monsoon rains approaching in a few months.
