Rickshaw Driver Dead In Vadodara Road Accident: Family Blames Civic Negligence And Demands Justice

Vadodara: A tragic accident in Vadodara has sparked public outrage, as a 38-year-old rickshaw driver lost his life after his vehicle overturned on a poorly repaired road. The victim, identified as Anilbhai Thakor Vasava, died early in the morning while driving from Sardar Estate to Vrundavan. His family has accused local authorities of gross negligence, claiming the road had been opened to traffic without being properly repaired following utility work.

According to officials, the road had undergone water pipeline shifting, but only partial patchwork was completed before it was reopened. No warning signs or barricades were reportedly placed at the site, despite visible potholes and uneven surfaces. Authorities from the water supply department admitted that the restoration was incomplete and blamed the ongoing monsoon for delays. However, in a controversial statement, an official remarked that “drivers should be more cautious, especially during the rains,” deflecting responsibility.

Police confirmed the incident and transported Anilbhai to Sayaji Hospital, where he was declared dead. He was the sole breadwinner of his family and leaves behind a young daughter and a two-year-old son. His sudden death has devastated the family and raised serious concerns about public safety and civic accountability.

An initial investigation revealed that the accident occurred after Anilbhai’s rickshaw hit a trench left unsealed after the pipeline work. The vehicle flipped over due to the rough terrain. Locals report that although some temporary patchwork had been done, no asphalt layer had been applied, making the road slippery and dangerous in the rain.

PI M.R. Sangada of Bapod Police stated, “Our team reached the site promptly. The condition of the road and the absence of barricades are concerning, and we are investigating further.”

Community members are demanding justice and stricter accountability from the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. This incident adds to a growing list of fatal accidents in the city linked to incomplete or careless public works.
