Relief For Gujarat Farmers As North Gujarat And Saurashtra To Get 30,689 MCFT Of Narmada Water

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has approved the provision of 30,689 million cubic feet (MCFT) of Narmada water to the regions of North Gujarat and Saurashtra. The allocation will be implemented by June 30, 2025.
In a decision aimed at addressing water scarcity and supporting agriculture during the summer season the state will channel 14,539 MCFT to North Gujarat and 16,150 MCFT to Saurashtra to replenish ponds, lakes, and check dams, enhancing irrigation potential and ensuring drinking water availability. This decision follows sustained appeals from local farmers and community leaders seeking relief amid recurring water shortages.
In North Gujarat, the Narmada main canal-based lift pipeline system will supply water to more than 950 ponds and check dams for irrigation and water for drinking use will be supplied through the Sujalam Sufalam Spreading Canal. Meanwhile, Saurashtra will receive Narmada water, reaching 243 ponds and 1,820 check dams.
According to the state government, this strategic intervention is expected to bring over 60,000 acres of farmland under irrigation, significantly improving agricultural productivity in both regions.
