Railway Traffic Restored Following Bullet Train Project Accident in Gujarat

Railway traffic was restored early Tuesday morning following the successful lifting of a segmental launching gantry that had inadvertently skidded at a bullet train project area near Ahmedabad. The accident happened on Sunday evening near the Geratpur Vatva section of Ahmedabad, damaging an adjacent railway track and the Overhead Electric Equipment (OHE), resulting in disruption to train services. After over 24 hours of repair work, train movement was resumed, with the first train crossing at 5:36 am.
The mishap, which caused no casualties, resulted in the cancellation of 38 trains, and seven others, including important services such as the Vande Bharat Express and Shatabdi Express, were partially cancelled. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) carried out the intricate lifting operation, employing several heavy-duty cranes to lift the gantry beams and clear the site. The repair of the damaged track and OHE was finished around 4:45 am on Tuesday.
With the restoration work successfully completed, passenger as well as goods trains started running again. The first passenger train was sent off at 6:06 am. Refreshments and facilitation were offered to affected passengers at different stations, and a helpline was also established to provide additional aid. Senior railway officials personally supervised the restoration work to ensure safety and quick revival of services.
