Railway Recruitment 2026: Over 22,000 Group D Vacancies Approved; Major Opportunity for Class 10 Pass Youth

Ahmedabad: The Railway Ministry has opened employment opportunities for India’s educated youth as the year concludes. Railway Board has granted official approval to recruit more than 22,000 fresh positions under Group D (Level-1) category. This recruitment drive will fill vacancies across 11 different departments, including Engineering, Electrical, and Mechanical divisions.

Department-wise Vacancy Distribution

According to Railway Board reports, the maximum hiring will occur for Track Maintainer Grade-IV positions, with 11,000 vacancies reserved for this role. Other significant positions include:

  • Pointsman-B
  • Assistant (Bridge and Track Machine)
  • Assistant Loco Shed and Operations
  • Various positions in Signal and Telecom Department

Discussing zone-wise allocation, East Central Railway will fill 993 positions while South Eastern Railway will recruit for 1,199 vacancies.

Strict Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Guidelines

Physical testing forms a critical component of this recruitment process:

  • Male candidates: Must carry 35 kg weight and cover 100 meters distance within 2 minutes
  • Female candidates: Must carry 20 kg weight and cover 100 meters distance within 2 minutes
  • Additionally, both genders must complete a 1,000-meter run within the stipulated timeframe

Application Timeline

According to sources, the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) will release the official notification for this recruitment during the first week of January. Interested candidates are advised to regularly monitor RRB’s official website and commence their preparation immediately.
