Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat: Congress Must Win Here to Defeat BJP-RSS

Modasa: Following the recent national convention in Ahmedabad, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi concluded a two-day tour of Gujarat with renewed focus on grassroots empowerment and ideological resistance against the BJP and RSS.

During a visit to Modasa in Aravalli district, the Raebareli MP addressed over 1,200 Congress block presidents, assuring them greater autonomy and backing from the party’s central leadership.

In his address, Gandhi declared, “This battle isn’t just political—it’s ideological. If the BJP and RSS are to be defeated, the road to that victory runs through Gujarat.” He reminded attendees that Gujarat is the birthplace of the Congress movement and leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, emphasizing that the state still holds the key to national change.

Criticism of Big Business and Centralisation
Gandhi opened his speech by pointing out that industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani—often linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi—are from Gujarat. “They’ve risen from this land, and now that success has become a burden for ordinary citizens,” he said, questioning the lack of opportunities for the common people.

He also announced a decentralization initiative, promising that decisions would be made at the district level rather than from the state capital, Ahmedabad. Gandhi committed to being available whenever and wherever the party workers need him, acknowledging their difficult role under current political pressures.

Internal Party Discipline and Restructuring
Calling out internal issues, Gandhi differentiated between active workers and those aligning with rival parties. “This crowd has three types of people—those running in the race, those here for show, and those no longer contributing,” he remarked.

He later interacted directly with party members, who raised concerns over inactive leadership, lack of female representation, and financial mismanagement within party units. In response, Gandhi acknowledged the issues and committed to reforms.

Earlier in the tour, Gandhi met with 41 district and city Congress presidents and party observers at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress headquarters. During that meeting, the party announced the formation of a five-member committee to review district-level leadership. The committee will submit its report to the high command within 45 days, after which new district heads will be appointed.
