PM Modi in Gujarat Ahmedabad: Roadshow, Nikol Rally, and Launch of Projects Worth Over ₹5,400 Crore

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Gujarat on August 25–26. After arriving in Ahmedabad, he took part in a grand roadshow from the airport to Nikol, which culminated in a large public rally. During the event, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of several development projects worth more than ₹5,477 crore.

“Ganesh Chaturthi Begins with New Projects”: PM Modi

Addressing the gathering, Modi said it was auspicious that ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, several projects linked to Gujarat’s growth were being launched. He called it his privilege to dedicate these initiatives to the people.

Remarks on Security and Terrorism

The Prime Minister recalled earlier times when Ahmedabad lived under constant threats of riots and curfews. He said Congress governments at the Centre had ignored the violence, but his government had taken decisive action against terrorism. Referring to Operation Sindoor, he said India had crossed borders to strike deep against terror camps. “Terrorists and their handlers can no longer escape, no matter where they hide,” he said.

Gujarat: Land of Two Mohans

Calling Gujarat the land of two Mohans Lord Krishna of Dwarka and Mahatma Gandhi of Sabarmati he noted that India is following their path. While Krishna wielded the Sudarshan Chakra for justice and protection, Gandhi showed the way to self-reliance through Swadeshi, he said.

Push for Industry, Technology, and Green Energy

The Prime Minister highlighted Gujarat’s strides in industry, stating that the state is emerging as a semiconductor hub. He pointed out its strong presence in textiles, jewellery, pharmaceuticals (accounting for one-third of India’s exports), and renewable energy including solar, wind, and nuclear.

Gujarat, he said, will also expand as a major centre for green energy and petrochemicals, supporting industries such as plastics, paints, and cosmetics, while modernising traditional sectors.

Vision for Tourism and National Pride

PM Modi hailed Gujarat as a growing tourism destination, crediting landmarks like the Rann of Kutch, Statue of Unity, and the upcoming Bet Dwarka bridge. Stressing self-reliance, he urged citizens to adopt the mantra “I will buy Swadeshi” and appealed to shopkeepers to reject foreign goods, promising GST reforms and festive benefits.

From Mills to Modern Development

Reflecting on Gujarat’s past, Modi said decades ago people only lamented factory closures. Today, however, the state has seen new industries rise, creating jobs and strengthening Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He praised Ahmedabad’s transformation, recalling that the city was once ridiculed as “Gardabad” (dust city). Now, he said, Ahmedabad ranks among India’s cleanest cities, a change made possible through sustained efforts.

Sabarmati Ashram and Legacy

Modi announced that the revamp of Sabarmati Ashram is underway, turning it into a global symbol of peace, much like how the Statue of Unity has become an inspiration for the nation and the world.

Sports & Events Hub

Highlighting Ahmedabad’s cultural rise, Modi pointed out that the city is now also a concert and sports hub, with the massive stadium playing host to major international events, including global concerts like Coldplay.

The Roadshow and New Projects

Ahead of his Nikol rally, the Prime Minister led a 1.5 km roadshow from Haridarshan Crossroads to Nikol Khodaldham ground, with cultural programmes lined up along the route.

In Ahmedabad alone, Modi laid the foundation for projects worth ₹2,209 crore and inaugurated works worth ₹916 crore, including redevelopment of Ramapir Tekra’s slum clusters under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at a cost of ₹133 crore. Other city projects include stormwater drainage systems in Shela, Manipur, Godhavi, Sanathal, and Telav.

In addition, he laid the foundation stone for the Stamps and Registration Bhavan in West Ahmedabad and flagged off a major infrastructure upgrade to convert a four-lane road into six lanes under a ₹1,624 crore Hybrid Annuity Model project.

Beyond Ahmedabad, PM Modi also inaugurated development works worth ₹555 crore in Gandhinagar.
