Gujarat : Over 900 Accidents, 50 Burn cases And 380 Breathing Problems Recorded Across State As Diwali Celebrations Spark Fire Alerts

Ahmedabad : The night of Diwali’s festival of lights was filled with accidental incidents across the state including Ahmedabad. In Ahmedabad city, around 80 fire incidents were recorded from 5 pm on Diwali evening until 6 am early morning, including one where the fire brigade rescued an unconscious person from a thread manufacturing factory fire on Pirana-Piplag Road.

A total of 56 burn cases were reported across the state, with the highest number of 17 people getting burned in Ahmedabad. The 108 ambulance service received 565 more emergency calls than normal days, totaling 5,389 calls. They also received 916 road accident calls and 380 calls related to breathing difficulties due to poor air quality.

Fire incidents due to firecrackers occurred in various areas of the city on Diwali night. The fire brigade team received the most calls for fires in garbage and houses. A fire incident occurred at Mahalaxmi Textile, a thread manufacturing factory located near Bharwadvas on Pirana Piplag Road in the city, where five to six fire brigade vehicles reached the spot.

The fire brigade started efforts to control the fire by spraying water. On the other hand, a hole was made in the adjacent wall to enter from the neighboring factory. Due to the fire, there was a lot of smoke, so fire brigade personnel wearing safety equipment went inside where they found one person lying unconscious, whom the fire brigade team carried out.

On Diwali night, from 10 PM until early morning 6 AM, the fire brigade control room received about 58 fire-related calls. In the city’s Zundal area near Sharanam Circle, a fire broke out in a plastic warehouse due to firecrackers, for which three vehicles from Ahmedabad Fire Brigade and three from Gandhinagar Fire Brigade reached the spot. The fire team brought the fire under control by using water cannons.

Other cities received 1-2 calls, and patients were transferred to hospitals for treatment. On Diwali day, 108 ambulances received 5,389 emergency calls. On normal days, around 5,199 calls are received, however on Diwali day there were 565 more calls.

On Diwali day in the state, cases of accidents, fights and breathing difficulties were also reported, with the highest number of accidents occurring in cities including Ahmedabad, Dahod, Botad, Rajkot, Panchmahal, Kutch, Bhavnagar, Kheda, Bharuch, Anand, Valsad, Chhota Udepur, Banaskantha and Junagadh. The highest number of accidents occurred involving two-wheelers.
