One Dead, 17 Injured As Bus Carrying Pilgrims Overturns Near Porbandar

Porbandar: A tragic road accident near Kolikhada village in Porbandar district claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman and left 17 others injured on Sunday morning when a mini-bus carrying pilgrims overturned. The pilgrims were en route from Veraval to the holy town of Dwarka when the accident occurred. According to initial reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to save cows that were sitting in the middle of the road. Despite the effort, the bus struck the animals and veered off the road before overturning.

The deceased has been identified as Ratanben Babubhai Parmar, a 65-year-old resident of Veraval, who died on the spot. Among the 17 injured were several children, and injuries ranged from minor to severe. Local villagers rushed to the scene upon hearing the crash. They assisted in rescuing the injured passengers from the wreckage and alerted emergency services. A team from the 108 ambulance service arrived promptly and transported all the injured to the government hospital in Porbandar for further treatment.

Hospital sources confirmed that while some of the injured are in stable condition with minor injuries, others have been admitted for more serious trauma and are currently under observation. Two cows that were hit by the bus also died at the scene.

Porbandar police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. The passengers were reported to be pilgrims from the Bhalka Tirth area, and their families have been notified. The tragic incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the communities of Veraval and Porbandar.
