Notorious Surat Criminal Chirag Goti Surrenders in Court After Eight Months on the Run in Drugs Case

Surat: The city of Surat has been witnessing the reign of terror of the notorious Chirag Goti for quite some time now. From planting drugs in a friend’s car to extortion worth crores, assault, and death threats by brandishing a revolver, multiple charges have been leveled against him. Now, in the case involving 70 grams of MD drugs seized near Gurukul, Chirag Goti has surrendered in court. He had fled to Nepal after being declared wanted for the past eight months.

What is the Drugs Case?

The incident dates back approximately ten months when Singanpor police, acting on a tip-off during vehicle checking, arrested oil trader Alpesh Miyani with drugs worth Rs 7.87 lakh. The investigation revealed that following a dispute with his business partner and friend Alpesh Miyani, Chirag Goti harbored enmity and planted drugs in Alpesh Miyani’s car. It was Chirag himself who tipped off the police about it. Based on this information, police apprehended Alpesh Miyani with drugs valued at Rs 7.87 lakh. However, during the police investigation itself, Chirag Goti’s cunning scheme was exposed.

Notorious Chirag Goti Had Fled to Nepal

Police filed a chargesheet in court against Chirag Goti, who plotted to plant drugs in his friend’s car, and Mohammad Safwan Mohammad Ishaq Mewawala, who sold the drugs. This was because the investigation yielded substantial evidence of the activities of partner Chirag Goti, his brother Nirant, and father Ghanshyam Goti. After the complaint was registered, he kept changing locations to evade police and fled to Nepal, staying in different hotels. Now, after surrendering in the Surat court, police have initiated further proceedings.

Supreme Court Granted Bail Extension to Brother Nirant, Directed Chirag to Surrender

Following the complaint, Chirag Goti and his brother Nirant made extensive efforts to obtain anticipatory bail. When the Surat Sessions Court rejected their bail, they approached the Gujarat High Court seeking bail. However, when anticipatory bail was not granted there either, they knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court. During the hearing, the Supreme Court noted that the main mastermind Chirag had been wanted for eight months and was absconding. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted an extension in Nirant’s bail application and directed Chirag to surrender within two weeks. Following the Supreme Court’s order, Chirag Goti surrendered in the Surat court, after which the court handed him over to police custody.
