Negligence at Surat SMIMER Hospital: Woman With Head Injury Left Waiting as Doctors Fail to Respond; Video Goes Viral

Surat: A troubling incident at Surat’s SMIMER Hospital has once again cast a spotlight on the state-run facility’s repeated failures in emergency care. A woman suffering from a serious head injury was allegedly left waiting for treatment for hours, as doctors on duty failed to respond. The shocking scene was captured in a video recorded by a relative, which has since gone viral and triggered public outrage.

The woman, reportedly injured in an accident, was brought to the hospital’s emergency ward with a severe injury to the back of her head. Despite the urgency of her condition, hospital staff allegedly failed to initiate treatment.

According to witnesses, the patient’s relatives pleaded with hospital personnel for medical attention, but doctors continued to deflect responsibility, each claiming another was in charge. Rather than being taken in for evaluation or care, the woman was left waiting in the ward as staff passed the buck, with no attending physician stepping forward.

Frustrated by the delay and lack of assistance, one of the woman’s family members filmed the scene, capturing the inaction and disorganization inside the emergency unit. The video, which is now widely shared on social media, shows a chaotic and unresponsive environment, where a patient in critical condition is effectively ignored. The footage has drawn strong criticism from citizens and healthcare observers, highlighting what many see as a dangerous pattern of negligence at SMIMER Hospital.

In the wake of the viral video, Surat Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee Chairman, Rajan Patel, issued an immediate order for an inquiry. “We will not tolerate such carelessness when it comes to the health and lives of patients,” Patel said in a statement. “A full investigation is underway, and action will be taken against those responsible.” Patel also confirmed that the hospital’s Resident Medical Officer (RMO) has been formally instructed to review the incident and report back with findings.
