
A couple hailing from Mumbai has been arrested with ganja worth Rs 2.38 crore at Chiloda in Gandhinagar. The hybrid ganja was being taken from Delhi to Bengaluru in a bus. Gandhinagar ASP Ayush Jain gave information about the incident in a press conference.
Speaking on the matter, Ayush Jain stated that yesterday (May 30) Chiloda police station conducted a checking in a bus on the Ahmedabad- Himmatnagar highway, in which hybrid ganja was found in a bag that belonged to a couple. The ganja is worth Rs 2.38 crore. The couple, identified as Rashid Mehmood Shaikh and Saba Rashid Shaikh, have been arrested.
The ganja was supposed to be delivered at Bengaluru, Jain added. The two accused were arrested from Chandrala Naka Point on the Himmatnagar- Ahmedabad National Highway. They have been arrested by the Chiloda Police for inter-state drug trafficking. Illegal narcotics weighing 7.910 kg, and worth Rs 2,37,30,000 /- has been seized from them.
Apparently, during the checking of vehicles, a luxury bus of BR Travels with number AR-01-Q-9393 was stopped for checking. During which, the police found a man and a woman sitting in the last seat; when asked, they told that they were a couple. The police found hybrid marijuana in black and transparent plastic bags in a dark colored bag which belonged to the couple.
Primary investigations reveal that the narcotic substance is hybrid marijuana. It is worth Rs 2,37,30,000/-. Additionally, 2 mobile phones worth Rs 10,000, cash amount of Rs 430, 2 Indigo flight tickets, and their Aadhar cards have also been found. Thus, a total cash value of Rs 2,37,40,430 was seized from them. Further interrogation of the accused was also conducted.
As per informed by the accused, the couple are from Sonajinagar, Mumbai. They had gone to Delhi through flight to deliver the marijuana. The marijuana was to be delivered at Bengaluru via Ahmedabad in a travels bus. Legal action has been taken against both the accused under Sections 8(C), 20(B)(ii)(B), 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is being conducted by SOG Gandhinagar.
