Miraculous Recovery: Doctors Remove LED Bulb Of Toy From 9-Month-Old’s Lung At Civil Hospital In Ahmedabad

Parents Heave Sigh Of Relief As Child Successfully Treated After Struggling For Days

In a wholesome incident, after a successful operation, an LED bulb of a toy mobile phone was removed from the respiratory tract of a 9-month-old child, at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Apparently, a 9-month-old child had swallowed an LED bulb of a toy mobile phone. The child was experiencing excessive coughing from some days. On the advice of a pediatrician in Junagadh, an X-ray of the child’s chest was conducted, which revealed that something was present in the child’s respiratory tract.

The child’s parents, Junedbhai and Tabassumben, were suggested to get the child, named Mohammed, treated at a private hospital in Rajkot. However, due to the high fees of the private hospital, the parents brought the child to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for treatment. On June 3, the child was admitted in the pediatric surgery department of the hospital.

A bronchoscopy of the child was performed by the Head of the Pediatric Surgery department, Dr Rakesh Joshi, professor of Anesthesia department Dr Nilesh, and their team. The team successfully managed to extract an LED bulb from the right main bronchus of the child. As per the doctors, the child is recovering swiftly post-operation, and will soon be discharged from the hospital.

The child’s father Junedbhai, who hails from Mangrol taluka of Junagadh district, said that they were in tension and were struggling to treat their child since 19 days. Their search ended at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, which proved to be a ray of hope for them.

Meanwhile, Dr Rakesh Joshi informed that when the child was brought to the Civil Hospital for treatment, the doctors noticed a pin-like thing in the child’s lungs during the bronchoscopy. After surgery, it was found that it was an LED bulb of a mobile phone. Upon asking the child’s parents, it was revealed that the bulb was likely of a toy mobile phone that belonged to the child’s elder sister. The doctor further advised the parents, saying that children should be kept away from things that can be swallowed until they are five years old. The incident, which has taken place in the Pediatric Surgery Week, is an eye-opener for parents.
