
A strange incident has taken place in Surat, wherein a Mercedes car was set on fire by an unknown person. The incident occurred in the parking of Nilkanth Niwas, located in the Gail Colony area of Vesu, at midnight on May 28. The entire incident has been captured in a CCTV camera.
As per the CCTV footage, 2 unknown persons arrived on an activa at the place where the car was parked. After which, one of them threw a flammable liquid on the car and set it on fire. Within seconds, the car started burning, and clouds of smoke started erupting. The car owner and their family rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire, but to no avail.

One of the unknown persons can be seen wearing a grey shirt, a cap on the head, and a handkerchief tied to cover the face, in the CCTV footage. A complaint has been filed against the accused at the Vesu police station. The family members made dubious claims about the incident occurring as a result of old enmity. The police have started investigating into the matter based on the CCTV footages. They are trying to nab the accused on the basis of their movements and their vehicle, clearly visible in the footages.
Meanwhile, the owner of the car, Aanchal Singh, said that the incident has caused a loss of around more than Rs 1 lakh. Before they could control the fire, the front glass, roof, bonnet, and parts of the engine had got damaged.
Incidents where miscreants damage the citizens’ property are rising in the state. Such incidents raise concerns about the safety of people and their property in their own locality. It is high time now that the administration takes necessary steps to prevent such incidents, which sometimes occur due to trivial issues, but generate a huge loss for the victims.
