Massive Fire Destroys Equipment Worth Over Rs 400 Crore At NTPC Solar Plant In Dahod

Dahod: A massive fire broke out late Monday night at an under-construction 70 MW solar power plant in Bhatiwada village, Dahod district, reducing equipment worth over Rs 400 crore to ashes. The plant, being developed by NTPC, a central public sector enterprise, is part of a flagship green energy initiative backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to reports, the blaze started around 9:15 PM in the plant’s warehouse. NTPC employees immediately alerted the fire department, and firefighting teams were dispatched promptly. Despite their swift response, strong winds caused the flames to spread rapidly, destroying nearly all stored materials, including solar panels, transformers, and cables.
Fire tenders from Dahod, Godhra, Jhalod, and Chhota Udepur battled the inferno throughout the night and were able to bring it under control by Tuesday morning. Officials estimate that approximately 95 percent of the plant’s equipment was completely gutted in the fire.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdish Bhandari confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. “Seven to eight staff members and four security personnel present at the site were safely evacuated,” he said. However, the warehouse was entirely destroyed.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, authorities suspect possible sabotage. The solar project has faced repeated local opposition, including disruptions and even stone-pelting incidents earlier, sources revealed. Police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire and to probe any potential foul play.
