Massive Fire Breaks Out At Morbi Paper Godown: 20,000 Tons Of Waste Paper Destroyed

Morbi: A massive fire broke out on Sunday afternoon at a paper godown on the Halvad-Malviya highway in Morbi. The blaze, which began around 4 PM, quickly intensified and engulfed approximately 20,000 tons of waste paper stored at the facility, triggering widespread panic in the area.

The fire originated in the storage section of Lemit Papers Mill for reasons yet to be determined. Despite immediate efforts by the mill workers to control the flames using available equipment, the fire escalated rapidly. Morbi fire brigade was promptly alerted, and as the situation worsened, a “Major Call” was issued to summon additional support.

Firefighting teams from Halvad, Dhrangadhra, and Rajkot were dispatched to assist in the operation. By 6 PM, a joint firefighting effort was underway, but the fire continued to rage well into the night. Reports indicated that as late as 9 PM, firefighters were still battling the blaze, using high-pressure water jets in an attempt to contain it.

Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life have been reported. However, the estimated loss includes nearly 20,000 tons of waste paper and paper rolls that was completely destroyed in the fire. Fire officials stated that it could take several more hours to fully extinguish the flames. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
