Manav Sharma Suicide Case: Wife and Father-in-Law Arrested in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Nearly a month after Manav Sharma, a tech professional based in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, took his own life, police arrested his wife, Nikita Sharma, and her father, Nripendra Sharma, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Saturday, according to official reports. The arrests follow an intensive manhunt, with authorities offering a Rs 10,000 reward and issuing a non-bailable warrant for the duo in connection with an abetment of suicide case. Police had conducted raids across multiple locations to apprehend them and another suspect.

Nikita’s mother and sister were detained earlier on March 13 after she repeatedly ignored police summons. In a video released post-Manav’s death, Nikita alleged he suspected her of infidelity and physically assaulted her. However, a second, undated video later emerged, showing her apologizing to Manav and admitting to a premarital relationship with a man named Abhishek, which she claimed was forced upon her by her maternal uncle. In this clip, she retracted her earlier accusation, stating Manav never harmed her physically—a direct contradiction to her initial claims.

Manav’s family accused Nikita and her in-laws of tormenting him during divorce proceedings. Following a complaint from his father, police filed a case against five individuals, including Nikita, who had been evading authorities since her husband’s death.

Manav’s sister, Akanksha Sharma, told reporters that Nikita had threatened Manav, warning him that securing a divorce would be challenging and that his parents would face repercussions. Akanksha said her brother was overwhelmed by the looming threat of extended legal disputes. She added that Manav was shattered after uncovering Nikita’s past relationships and claimed tensions spiked when he learned she maintained contact with another man.

Manav Sharma, the only child of retired Air Force officer Narendra Kumar Sharma, was discovered deceased at his Defence Colony home in Agra on February 24. Employed as a recruitment manager for a Mumbai-based tech firm, he recorded a video on his phone before his death, blaming Nikita for driving him to suicide.
