Man Falls From 10th Floor, Gets Stuck Headfirst On 8th Floor Grille; Elderly Man Rescued After One-Hour Operation In Surat

Surat: A dramatic rescue operation in Surat on Thursday morning (23 December) left eyewitnesses shaken after a 57-year-old man fell from the 10th floor of a high-rise and became trapped on the 8th floor. The incident took place in the Jahangirabad area of Rander zone, where the man was left hanging in mid-air after getting stuck in the gallery grille. Fire officials conducted a high-risk, hour-long rescue and managed to save him safely.

The accident occurred at the ‘Time Galaxy’ building near D-Mart in Jahangirabad, where 57-year-old Nitinbhai Adiya lives on the 10th floor of Block A. He had been sleeping near the window when he accidentally fell out in his sleep. While plummeting down, one of his legs became tightly wedged between the window grille and the chhajja (balcony projection) on the 8th floor. Nitinbhai was left dangling upside down from the 8th floor, with a sheer drop beneath him.

As soon as the incident was reported, teams from Jahangirpura, Palanpur and Adajan fire stations rushed to the building. Treating the situation as an emergency, fire officials executed a double-protection rescue strategy. A safety net was held on the ground below to prevent fatal injuries if he slipped during the operation. At the same time, firefighters reached the 10th floor and secured Nitinbhai with ropes and a safety belt while he was still hanging in the air. Because his leg was jammed in the grille, they used a hydraulic cutter to carefully cut through the metal and free him.
