Man Beaten To Death In Bardoli On Suspicion Of Mango Theft; Five Accused Arrested

Accused Also Demanded Rs 50,000 From Deceased

A shocking incident has surfaced in Bardoli, wherein a 48-year-old man was beaten to death on the suspicion of theft of mangoes. He was brutally beaten by 5 men. After which, he was tied to a tree, when he succumbed to his injuries. The 5 accused had also demanded an amount of Rs 50,000 from the man.

The deceased, originally hailing from Uttar Pradesh, has been identified as Suresh Verma. He worked at an ambawadi (mango field), belonging to farmer Rakeshbhai Kantilal Patel, in Akoti village. Five other people who worked at the field alleged Suresh of stealing mangoes from the field and selling them.

Having a strong belief on their allegations, the 5 men, identified as Asfaq Abdul Rauf Rayan, Mohammad Umar Ziauddin Manihar, Yakub Abdul Gaffar, Vinodkumar Fulchand Agrawal, and Dashrath Chunilal Maurya, brutally beat Suresh, and tied him to a tree in the field itself. They demanded Rs 50,000 from him. However, Suresh died in that state due to being severely injured.

As a result of Suresh’s death, the 5 accused took his body in a car, and threw it in the canal passing through the Shampura village. On the other hand, the deceased’s son got to know about the incident and filed a police complaint. A case was registered, and all 5 accused have been arrested.

In a media interaction, Bardoli DYSP HL Rathod said that the deceased earned his livelihood by working at the mango field. The accused suspected the deceased of stealing and sharing mangoes from the field. Based on this suspicion, they beat the deceased in a brutal manner and tied him to a tree. During which, he died. The accused then threw the body into a canal.

Moreover, on checking call details, the police found that the accused had called up the deceased’s wife and demanded Rs 50,000. Due to this, police got information about the accused and they were nabbed. The accused accepted the crime during interrogation. The police have initiated further investigations.
