Surat: A video showing a man allegedly under the influence of drugs creating chaos inside a Surat city bus has gone viral, raising serious concerns about passenger safety and the presence of narcotics in public spaces. The incident occurred on a BRTS city bus operating between Adajan and Kamrej, as per the reports. In the viral footage, the man is seen hurling abuses at fellow passengers, displaying a packet suspected to contain drugs. His erratic behavior and loud threats caused panic among commuters, including women present on board.
Eyewitnesses and video evidence suggest the man openly claimed he was in possession of narcotics worth ₹5,000, allegedly cocaine, while shouting, “This is Surat, get out,” and asserting that he is a “royal Kathiawadi.” He also waved a high-end mobile phone and showed off a packet of drugs from his wallet.
Authorities report that a syringe typically used for drug injection and a bottle of suspected intoxicant syrup were found at the scene. The individual reportedly boarded the bus in an intoxicated state and continued to threaten fellow passengers throughout the journey.
Responding to the viral video, Surat Municipal Corporation’s Transport Committee Chairman, Somnath Marathe, confirmed that the footage has been reviewed and deemed the incident “serious and alarming.”
“We have initiated an inquiry on the bus route in question and directed conductors to report such cases immediately,” Marathe said. “This type of behavior endangers all passengers. We are coordinating with the police, and strict action will follow.” Marathe added that police action is underway and that officials are tracking the individual’s identity and background to determine further legal steps.
